The Citadel is the crown of Old Aleppo, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Settlement on the hill goes back thousands of years, and it flourished most under the Ayyubids.
Visitors cross the stone bridge through the massive gate, then wander past the throne hall, mosque, baths and defensive passages, with views over the old city and its souqs.
